Born in Cairo in 1972, Amal Ramsis is a Spanish filmmaker of Egyptian origin and founder of the Caravana de Entre Cineastas. She graduated in Law from Ain Shams University, Cairo (1993), and for a time worked as a lawyer. In 1992 she collaborated in the founding of the “Ma’an” Women’s Studies Centre in Egypt. In 2002 she received a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to study Film Directing at the Film School “Séptima Ars, Madrid”. In 2008 she created “Entre Cineastas” Cairo International Women’s Film Festival, the first annual women’s film festival in the Arab World. In 2009 she held the Chair of Arts and Cultures at the Euro-Arab Foundation in Granada. She has been a jury member at several festivals, including CPH:DOX and Documenta Madrid.
Her documentaries Sólo Sueños (2005), Prohibido (2011) and La Estela de la Mariposa (2015), Venís Desde Lejos (2018) have been awarded and screened at many international festivals.
